art room revamped

Based on my calculations I've spent about 60+ hours in my art room in the last 2 weeks. Being that this is my second year of teaching, I felt slightly less concerned about what the first week of school was going to look like and could focus a bit more on my room.

Here are some pictures of the "almost finished" room.

My newest addition, a "Word Wall" for 5th grade. The students will add words as we learn them.
This is on the bulletin board behind my desk. We add artist's hometowns once we learn about them!
I love my assignment board! No more questions from students about "what are we doing today?". Plus once we start doing real art projects it is a great place to post the objective.
After my summer vacation to Las Vegas, I fell in love with Chihuly, especially after seeing the ceiling in the Bellagio. I added some "glass-like" tye-dyed coffee filters for some ambiance above my desk. Outside my room though, I covered poster board with hundreds of these and pinned the poster board to the ceiling tiles. I'll be dreaming of summer and Chihuly ever time I step in my entrance-way.

And finally, I put this bookshelf together to hold all the extra art materials. Everything is sectioned off for easy replacement. Notice the Happy and Sad pencil tins...wonderful thought! The bottom half is for my Kindergarten centers. I have to do a whole other post about those!

Happy first day of school everyone!
